Youth Board for Personal and Professional Development

Youth Board

As a non-profit organisation serving young people, we understand the need to see from their perspective. And what better way to do so than to have a group of passionate youths we can turn to for ideas, people who represent the diversity among those we serve? For this reason, we created the Youth Board.

True Cadence’s Youth Board is a group of volunteers between the ages of 16-22 living in the UK who are looking to develop personal and professional skills while offering their life experience and opinions to help shape the organisation.

What Does a Youth Board Member Do?

Members will take on the role of young advisors. That means we’ll look to you for insights on the issues modern youths face, brainstorming ideas, and how we can better help the communities we serve. You’ll also be involved with the planning and execution of our youth development projects.

In short, being a part of this means you’re making a big impact on the lives of other young people.

Youth Board Members will:

  • Attend and contribute to a board meeting once every month
  • Attend a development workshop once every month
  • Participate and contribute to outreach activities

How does this benefit you?

Opportunities. Loads of it. By playing an advisory role in moving the organisation forward, you build consultancy, strategic planning, networking, creative, research, recruitment and management skills.
And as we know, these skills are highly sought after in the modern workspace. So you stand a better chance in the labour market. But that’s not all.
By investing your time in True Cadence, you get to learn about the music industry (free of charge), collaborate with reputable organisations, and develop your skills in the charity sector.
The bottom line? You position yourself for prestigious career opportunities. All from a young age.

Eligibility

  • Aged 16-22 and UK-based
  • Open-minded, inclusive, and non-judgmental
  • Passionate about supporting and leading other young people
  • Excited about developing personal and professional skills

We also look out for people with personal life experiences they may be willing to share, although this isn’t a requirement.

Also, we understand that some discussions may be triggering. Therefore, we ask that you only share what you’re comfortable with. No pressure.

True Cadence is an inclusive organisation. And to promote our standing, we are especially looking for volunteers who are LGBTQ+, black, ethnic minorities and young people with disabilities.

Join us to create a society where young people can thrive while preparing yourself for career success.

Yes, each Youth Board member will serve for a minimum of two years.

We know that even as a youth, you have several commitments. School, family, social activities, and personal time amongst others. So we wouldn’t want to overwork you. You only have to attend two meetings monthly and join in our outreach activities which only take place occasionally.

Those within the eligible age group by the end of their initial two-year term may renew their service (subject to agreement). Exceptional members with a strong interest in the third sector may receive additional training and even have the opportunity to join our official board.

True Cadence Youth Board members receive tailored personal and professional development training during their two-year term to prepare them for the future. The once monthly training consists of soft skills, leadership, employability and entrepreneurship. Further training on governance will be provided to any young person selected to join our Official Board.

If your parents or guardians have any questions about True Cadence’s Youth Board, sure, they’re free to talk to us. If they still don’t want you to join, that’s okay, too. Family comes first.

Of course not. We anticipate that the majority of our Youth Board members will come primarily from East London. However, we accept applications from young people across England.

Absolutely not! We are flexible, and we understand that you are only volunteering to help. So, we impose nothing on you. Feel free to say no to whatever inconveniences you; we will never judge you.

We will fund your transportation. We request that you obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before coming. Preferably, they can accompany you if they are disposed to it.
