THE EXPRESSION PROJECT

Are you a young musician, actively making music and looking to improve your live performance skills and take your career to the next level? Look no further than the True Cadence “The Expression Project”. Led by experienced music industry professionals and performers, the programme is designed to develop your skills of performing live in front of a live audience. 

 Through “The Expression Project“ you’ll learn the do’s and don’ts of live, on-stage performing, how to engage an audience, and other insider techniques to enhance your performance. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate with others on planning and executing live music events, acquiring invaluable project management skills from a self-management/independent artist point of view.

“The Expression Project” is packed with offers that will increase confidence, improve your live performance skills, opportunities to perform live at high-profile events, and a valuable understanding of project and self-management in the music industry. Previous participants of the programme have had the opportunity to perform at events such as the 10-year celebration of the Olympic Games at Queen Elizabeth Park in 2022.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME? 

  • Interactive workshops/live performance techniques 

You will attend hands-on workshops led by experienced performers and music industry professionals. These workshops will cover a variety of live performance techniques, including vocal exercises, stage presence, and audience interaction. 

  • Tailored 1:1 support from experienced performers 

In addition to group workshops, you will have access to tailored, individual support from experienced performers. 

  • Peer mentoring and group support 

You will be part of a supportive and inclusive community of like-minded performers. You’ll connect with peers, share experiences, receive feedback and support one another. 

  • Public speaking exercises and audience engagement 

effective communication with an audience is a crucial part of performing live. You’ll practice public speaking exercises designed to build your confidence and improve your audience engagement skills. 

  • Networking and site visits to music venues 

You’ll have the opportunity to visit various music venues and connect with active music industry professionals, providing invaluable networking opportunities and insights into the music industry. 

  • Learning to set up live performance events 

Participants will learn about the process involved from start to finish. Including: venue selection, event planning, promotion, logistics and more. 

  • Portfolio-boosting experience 

Participants will have the opportunity to record filmed performance videos that they can add to their portfolio. These videos can be used to showcase their skills and experience to potential clients or employers. 

  • End of programme celebration and TC Certificate 

At the end of the programme, participants will be celebrated for their hard work and achievements. They will also receive a certificate from True Cadence to recognise their participation and completion of the programme. 

 IS THIS PROGRAMME RIGHT FOR ME? 

“The Expression Project” is perfect for those who are: 

  • Passionate about music and dedicated to improving performance skills 
  • Interested in pursuing a career in the music industry as a performer 
  • Able to fully commit to the programme 
  • Aged between 16-25 and residing, working or studying in Barking and Dagenham or the surrounding boroughs in East London. 

 Please note that “The Expression Projectis designed to improve your performance skills and is for those who are already making music/releasing music and have at least one live performance under their belt. If you don’t have original songs recorded, you will be referred to one of our music-making programmes, We Create or Coast 2 Coast Masterclass, depending on your age. 

 PROGRAMME OUTCOMES 

At the end of the programme, participants are expected to have:  

  • Developed essential skills for professional live performances, including engaging with the audience and insider techniques to enhance on-stage performance. 
  • Gained project management skills from a self-management/independent artist perspective to successfully navigate the music industry. 
  • Built confidence and improve live performance skills. 
  • Gained knowledge of project and self-management in the music industry, enhancing learners’ employability and future career prospects.  
  • Fostered positive attitudes towards learning and personal growth. 
  • Less tendency and motivation to engage in antisocial behaviour by providing a positive and constructive outlet.

True Cadence was founded by a young person, for young people. Our team’s diverse backgrounds enable us to understand the unique challenges that young people face every day in the music industry. We co-design our programs with our learners, so we can create teachings and support that are relevant and tailored to their needs. We’re not just a group of people with an idea, we are lived-experience leaders and industry professionals who live and breathe music. 

As creatives ourselves, we are passionate about learning and finding new ways to support our young people in all aspects of their music careers. Our various facilitators are relatable, approachable, and provide in-depth industry knowledge and activities in an engaging, relatable, and impactful way for our learners. We are proud to support our local community and the young talent within it, as we come from the same community as our beneficiaries.
